The First Meeting
The first meeting with the client is to determine the scope, size, location the portrait will hang, and to get to know the subject. Each subject has a unique essence that will be interpreted through the pose, lighting, costume, setting, and expression. About two hours is required to photograph the subject in a variety of poses and lighting combinations. The sittings can take place in the artist's studio, or at the subject's home, office or other location. Time permitting, the artist will sketch one or more live studies.

In the Studio
A small oil-on-canvas study is done using all the photos and sketches available. The study determines color harmony and design for the final portrait. The study is presented to the client with photographs of the face and hands to be used as definitive reference materials. There will be no surprises throughout the entire procedure of what will be the final outcome.

Final Sitting
An optional second sitting with the client/subject is sometimes helpful if the artist feels more time with the subject is necessary.

Framing

If the client wishes, the artist will participate in selecting a suitable frame. The frame can be ordered to be ready at the same time as the painting.
